100 Teen Books for the Feminist Reader

This is possibly one of the coolest lists ever compiled. I wanted to highlight just a few of my favorites that made the list, but those few quickly became DOZENS. Dozens, I tell you.

Such an awesome list. So, go. Take a look at the awesome, and share in the comments one or two of your favorites that made the list (or a glaring missed title) and your comment will randomly enter you in to win a....

copy of INCARCERON by Catherine Fisher.

You have until Sunday, February 6th, midnight, to enter. And don't forget to enter the Wesley Payne contest!

Only students in grades 6-12 who can pick their winnings up at one of the 21 Sno-Isle Libraries are eligible to win.

Teen Review of the Week: Rock Star Superstar by Blake Nelson

Rock Star Superstar by Blake Nelson

Description:
Blake Nelson’s book, Rock Star Superstar, revolves around Pete McGrady’s vision of being successful. Pete’s journey begins as a sophomore bassist playing in the band Mad Skillz. But when they can’t get off the ground due to absence of enthusiasm, Pete’s friend Kevin employs him and a couple other friends to be in his alternate rock band. Showtime!

My Thoughts:
Kids who have an interest in bands and music will definitely adore this book. There are numerous parts that talk about the exhilarating experience known as playing live and just being in a band. I really enjoyed Blake Nelson’s unique writing style. Mind-numbing authors state the obvious, but noble authors like Blake Nelson subtly imply it.

Recommendation:
Musicians, Teens, Awesome People.

--J.S., grade 9, Marysville

I'm going to send J.S. a free book up in Marysville. Laura, the teen librarian there, will let J.S. know when it arrives!

Winner of PINK!

The random winner of PINK by Lili Wilkinson is, with this comment:

KJ:
I think flash mobs are really cool, and extremely entertaining to watch. I haven't participated in one, but it sounds like fun! If it were my choice, I'd have everyone interested in participating synchronize their watches and freeze for 5 minutes at either Pike's Place Market or the food court at a mall.
