What?? You don’t know about Record Store Day?? A few years back, indie record stores banded together to celebrate how cool record stores still are, and each year more stores are involved, there are more in-store concerts, and more bands give away FREE COOL STUFF: CDs, vinyl 7” singles, t-shirts - you name it. Take a look at a message from this year’s Record Store Ambassador, Ozzy Osborne here and make sure to check with your local indie store to see what they’ve got planned for April 16.

Author Jennifer Donnelly in Lynnwood Tomorrow!

Jennifer Donnelly, award-winning author of A Northern Light, will be appearing at the Alderwood Barnes and Noble tomorrow night (Wednesday October 13, 2010) at 7:00pm. Do you love comic books?

If I wasn't working today, I would totally be at the Emerald City ComiCon. We are lucky to have such a great comic book show here in the Northwest! And it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. This year there are a TON of great comic book illustrators and writers, plus all kinds of fun celebrities such as Stan Lee, Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek's original Spock), and Lou Ferrigno (TV's Incredible Hulk). Plus there is gaming, costumes, and tons of fun booths where you can shop for cool anime and comics related stuff. I love meeting all the artists and writers best of all. They are great people and most are super nice when you get talking to them.

I especially wish I was there so I could get one of these adorable Owly shirts!

Frisbee in the Lynnwood Library?

Can we do that?

Well, yeah. As long as the library is closed. Which is exactly what we're doing Friday night (February 26th). By 7pm, Lynnwood Library will have been transformed into an 18-obstacle course for Frisbees. Dare to try your hand?

We'll provide the Frisbees, the snacks, and for a few lucky players, a prize. You'll be 12-18 ready to have fun - absolutely no skill is required!

As with all library programs, this is a FREE event thanks to the Sno-Isle Foundation & the Friends of the Library.

Puget Sound Off - cool opportunities for teens!

A great local organization is looking for teen volunteers. They are especially looking for folks from Snohomish and Island Counties who can help spread the word about teen events (such as those in our libraries):

Puget Sound Off! --Here's an opportunity to express your voice, your creativity, your music-- The PSO Regional Youth Council is a training program that provides Seattle area youth with skill building and an on-line forum to develop a strong public voice. We are seeking young people ages 15 to 18 who care about their community, are creative, and who want to improve their 21st Century technology skills. If you are selected, you'll join other young people from Seattle using a unique forum for youth public communication--Puget Sound Off. Our goal is to engage energetic and committed young people who will create original content for the Puget Sound Off website, and to help promote the site to local youth. PSO Youth Council team members can earn a stipend and/or service learning hours. PSO flyer and information about service learning hours How easy is it to earn hours?

Costume Party!

Hey Guys,

When I asked you what you wanted to do at the Lynnwood Library you said that you liked after hours programs, that you like parties, and that you thought scavenger hunts and goth sock puppets were cool ideas.

GUESS WHAT?

Well, you probably figured it out already what with the title and your inherent cleverness (note the blatent sucking up on my part)... but all of those lovely things you expressed interest in are combining into one simply spectacular evening of awesome!

We shall have a Costume Contest - a Scavenger Hunt - we'll make Goth (or Emo, if that's your thing) Sock Puppets - you'll witness The Return of the Button Machine - the old favorite, Guitar Hero - and we'll screen a classic black & white Horror Movie to set the scene.

And, of course, there will be Candy & Pizza. But you knew that, right? *grin*

SO HALLOWEEN NIGHT (that's Friday) 8PM - 10PM
