Weekend Book Give-Away: The Year We Were Famous

This summer we will be giving away a bunch of FREE books. Unlike library books, after three weeks you get to keep these :)

The first book we are giving away this summer is The Year We Were Famous by Carole Estby Dagg, a local author and retired librarian!

Based on the true story of seventeen-year-old Clara Estby's walk across America with her mother Helga in 1896, to win a ten thousand dollar prize and save their home from foreclosure. This fast-paced historical adventure takes place during the time of the suffragist movement, the 1896 presidential campaign, and the changing perception of "a woman's place" in society.

Right now there are 36 Sno-Isle fans waiting to read this...but you can win your own copy. To enter leave a comment telling us something cool about your own family history! Winner will be selected on Tuesday June 21, 2011.

I had a relative who was flyining in a bomber during one of the past wars. When he decided to take a nap....on the bomb doors! He not only took a nap but also used his parachute as a pillow. When airturbulance hit the bomb doors opened and he plummeted to his death.

Something cool about my family...let's see...The only really cool thing that I know, is that we're related to the president Millard Filmore, which I suppose is pretty awesome.

Part of my family is English, part of my family is French. And in true Romeo and Juliet fashion (minus the dying miserably while still really young part) they married during the 100 years war.

Looks like a great book - I'd love to win it! :) And as for something interesting about my family history, how about the fact that we're modern-day nomads? Right now, I've got relatives and in-laws in Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, China and Greece lol.

If I win, my email is grig at gmx dot com - thanks!!!

Hm...something cool? My family used to live in Vietnam and escape there to come to America for a better life.
