2014 Teen Tech Month Video Contest

Teen Tech Month Video Contest
I'm delighted to announce our 7th Annual Teen Tech Month Video Contest!  This year we are doing things slightly different.  We are still offering Best Buy gift cards to the video best loved by viewers ($150) and for the Librarian's Choice prize ($75), but we have an all new category this year for Best Group Project.   If your class, library advisory board, school video team submit a video and enter it in this category, you have a chance to win a pizza party!

The basics:

  1. Create a video promoting the library or your favorite book.
  2. Video length must be 30 seconds to 3 minutes, including credits.
  3. Include credits in the video indicating you produced the video for the Sno-Isle Libraries Video Contest.
  4. Post your video to YouTube with the tag "snoisleteens."
  5. Submit your YouTube URL through our online entry located here by March 31, 2014.
  6. Online voting and winners announced in April.
Rules and guidelines can also be found on our Video Contest page. Here is last year's winner:

This really is one of my favorite things we do each year. I can't wait to see all the creative things you, our talented teens, come up with!

2013 Teen Video Contest Winners

And now the moment you have all been waiting for, the announcement of our Teen Tech Month Video Contest winners!

In first place we have a book trailer for a great work of classic fantasy by J.R.R. Tolkien: The Silmarillion.  Packed with adventure, action, drama, costumes, and sword fights, this video makes me wonder 1) why I haven't read this yet and 2) when is Peter Jackson going to finish up with The Hobbit and start in on this book?

Congratulations to Mary H. & Mathaus S. for making our most popular entry this year.  We will soon have a ceremony at the Monroe Library to celebrate and present you with the $150 gift card from Best Buy.

Our second place winner is Escaping the Pages by Elizabeth F. from Camano Island, who you may remember from last year with another terrific stop motion entry Ginger May's Trip to the Library.  In this year's video Harry Potter and his friends and enemies escape from their book into our Muggle world.  Elizabeth will be awarded a $75 gift card for Best Buy.

The 2013 Teen Tech Month Librarian's Choice Award goes to Mallory P. of Mukileo for Read More Books, starring a very handsome reading cat named Boots.  This award also comes with a $75 gift card for Best Buy.

Thank you to everyone who entered.   We always enjoy your videos and love having the opportunities to show off what great teen talents are to be found in our community!

All prizes are generously provided by the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation, who are wonderful supporters of our teen programs and events.

Enter the 2012 Teen Video Challenge!

If you read this, you're probably already aware of the book trailer contest we hold each March during Teen Tech Month. Perhaps you've watched from afar and wanted to enter but were afraid to.

Here's your chance to practice making videos and possibly earn some extra cash in the 2012 Teen Video Challenge.

A little bit of imagination in a short public service announcement could make you the Teen Video Challenge Winner! The video produced by a Washington student or group of students that best encourages use of their local public libraries and promotes reading all summer long will take away the contest prize. The top video will be featured throughout 2012 as the official commercial for Washington’s Summer Reading Program.

The theme for the 2012 Summer Reading Program is Own the Night.

One video from each participating state will be submitted to the CSLP, which will award each State Teen Video Challenge Winner $275. Their public library or member affiliate will receive copy00 from CSLP and $50 from Upstart. The winning videos from each state will be posted to the CSLP website and become the official Teen PSA for the 2012 summer program.

In addition, the Washington State Library and the Washington Office of the Secretary of State will post the top 10 Washington applicant videos on their website.

The deadline to enter is March 9, 2012. You can read more about the contest details and rules at the offical site.

New Video Contest Entry: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Kendall from Coupville has submitted a video for one of my all time favorite books! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is by Douglas Adams and is one of the funniest things I've ever read. I loved it when I was a teen, and never stopped. I'm also a big fan of the movie with Mos Def.

Video Contest Entry: Flipped

I'm a huge fan of the book Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen. It tells the story of a boy and a girl who grow up next door to each other. She has loved him since the day she moved in, and he has felt she was the biggest pest ever. Then right when she gets fed up with him, he starts to see her with new eyes. Not so much a romance, but a book about relationship...how we related to friends, family, and how confusing it can be when we feel more than we expect.

This entry for our 2011 Teen Video Contest is by Ruth who goes to the Edmonds Library:

So charming!

Think you can do better? You have four more weeks to get your entry in!

1) 2011 Teen Video Challenge

"Go viral" and reach teens all across America! Create

The top video will be featured throughout 2011 as the official commercial for Washington’s Summer Reading Program. The deadline is March 7, 2011.

2) And of course, Sno-Isle Libraries will be having its own Teen Video Contest in March, as part of our Teen Tech Month celebration.
