2013 Teen Video Contest Winners

And now the moment you have all been waiting for, the announcement of our Teen Tech Month Video Contest winners!

In first place we have a book trailer for a great work of classic fantasy by J.R.R. Tolkien: The Silmarillion.  Packed with adventure, action, drama, costumes, and sword fights, this video makes me wonder 1) why I haven't read this yet and 2) when is Peter Jackson going to finish up with The Hobbit and start in on this book?

Congratulations to Mary H. & Mathaus S. for making our most popular entry this year.  We will soon have a ceremony at the Monroe Library to celebrate and present you with the $150 gift card from Best Buy.

Our second place winner is Escaping the Pages by Elizabeth F. from Camano Island, who you may remember from last year with another terrific stop motion entry Ginger May's Trip to the Library.  In this year's video Harry Potter and his friends and enemies escape from their book into our Muggle world.  Elizabeth will be awarded a $75 gift card for Best Buy.

The 2013 Teen Tech Month Librarian's Choice Award goes to Mallory P. of Mukileo for Read More Books, starring a very handsome reading cat named Boots.  This award also comes with a $75 gift card for Best Buy.

Thank you to everyone who entered.   We always enjoy your videos and love having the opportunities to show off what great teen talents are to be found in our community!

All prizes are generously provided by the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation, who are wonderful supporters of our teen programs and events.

2012 Art Contest Winners

Wow!  You guys really came through with some amazing entries this year.  There have been some challenging years for our judges to pick just four winners, but I honestly think this was the hardest for them.  We had 173 entries this year (which I think is a record) and SO MANY of them were fantastic!  I am so proud of the creativity and artistic flair possessed by the teens in our community.  Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us.

So, with no further ado, our 2012 Teen Read Month "It Came from a Book" art contest winners are:

Megan M. from Lynnwood

Chana K. from Mill Creek

Emily B. from Marysville

Jake T. from Mountlake Terrace

The winning art will be posted on our website very soon, and in a few weeks will be showcased on posters throughout our two counties in libraries and schools!

Each winner will be recognized at their local library with a special ceremony and receive a $50 gift card for Amazon.com provided by the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation.

Thanks again to everyone who entered, and to the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation for its continued generous support of teen programs and activities!

We Have Our Winners

Drum roll please...

It is that time you have all been waiting for, when we announce the winners of the Teen Summer Reading Contest!

For our Grand Prize of an iPad, drawn from 3670 entries we have Madison McA from Marysville!  Madison is a student at 10th Street Middle School and wrote some great reviews this summer.

For the coveted Librarians' Choice Award we have Carly B, a homeschooler from Lake Stevens.  The librarians loved that she brought back an old school book and breathed fresh life into in.

The Princess and the Goblin By George MacDonald

Description: Goblins live and miners dig under Princess Irene's castle. One night goblins see Irene. They make plans to kidnap her and forcibly marry her to the cruel goblin prince. A noble miner boy, Curdie, is determined to help Irene. Meanwhile, Irene has found her mysterious great-great grandmother. Will Curdie and the woman be enough to save the princes?

My Thoughts: This is an old book, written in 1872, so occasional language is outdated--but that just adds to the charm of this lovely tale. The reader will come to realize that no matter one's lowly birth, one can be a prince or princess by one's noble, truthful actions. I admired Irene's truthfulness, even when no one would believe her.

Recommendation: fantasy, princess, and fairy-tale fans

Congratulations to all our readers, for being such awesome readers and reviewers.  We are really loved reading all your reviews and are so glad you shared the fun of reading with everyone this summer.

And special thanks to our very generous Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation, without whom we would not be able to offer such fabulous prizes!
