Weekend Book Give-Away: Level 2

Looking for something fresh to read?  You might want to try out this weekend book give-away Level 2 by Lenore Appelhans.

Seventeen-year-old Felicia Ward is dead and spending her time in the hive reliving her happy memories--but when Julian, a dark memory from her past, breaks into the hive and demands that she come with him, she discovers that even the afterlife is more complicated and dangerous then she dreamed.

Wait, what?  That isn't anything like an afterlife I've ever imagined!  But that is the beauty of science-fiction, I guess, you can do whatever you want.

For a chance to win an ARC of Level 2, tell me how you imagine the afterlife (and if you don't believe in one, say why).

Winner will be selected with Random Number Generator on Tuesday April 2, 2013. Be sure to leave a name with your entry, and check back to see if you won. To win you must be a teen (6th-12th grade, or 12-18) who uses a Sno-Isle Library.

Trailer Tuesday: Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

I'll admit that I haven't yet read Throne of Glass, but the people who live in the internet are agog about it. I admit to liking strong girls with swords, so I'll probably need to give this a go. Although I totally like the cover in the trailer WAY better then the one on the actual cover (which may be why I haven't read it...).

"After she has served a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, Crown Prince Dorian offers eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien her freedom on the condition that she act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin." -Publisher description

Weekend Book Give-Away: Eleanor & Park

Apologies for not posting this Friday!  I was out sick, but wanted to get this up before the weekend was over...

This weekend's book is a preview copy of Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.  It has been getting a ton of good buzz and even has a blurb from one of my favorite teen authors:  "This sexy, smart, tender romance thrums with punk rock and true love. Readers will swoon for Eleanor & Park" - Gayle Forman (If I Stay, One Day)

Bono met his wife in high school , Park says. So did Jerry Lee Lewis , Eleanor answers. I'm not kidding , he says. You should be , she says, we're 16 . What about Romeo and Juliet?Shallow, confused, then dead. I love you , Park says. Wherefore art thou, Eleanor answers. I'm not kidding, he says. You should be. Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits-smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you'll remember your own first love-and just how hard it pulled you under.

I've heard lots of people say they love this book, but other people say it is a teen book written for adults.  So whoever gets this book...I want to hear back about what you think of it!  There are 21 people waiting for this one right now, but you can skip the list if Random Number Generator picks your comment.  For a chance to be included in the drawing, tell me about the last time a book made you feel like you wanted to swoon.  If it has never happened, tell me what you think it would take.

Winner will be selected with Random Number Generator on Thursday March 28, 2013. Be sure to leave a name with your entry, and check back to see if you won. To win you must be a teen (6th-12th grade, or 12-18) who uses a Sno-Isle Library.

Trailer Tuesday: Swipe by Evan Angler

Swipe is the first in a dystopian series with strong Christian themes. If you are a Left Behind fan, this is probably for you.

"In a future United States under the power of a charismatic leader, everyone gets the Mark at age thirteen. The Mark allows citizen to shop, go to school, and even get medical care—without it, you are on your own. Few refuse to get the Mark. Those who do . . . disappear." -Publisher description

Weekend Book Give-Away: Scarlet

Can you believe we are already halfway through Teen Tech Month?  How does the time fly so quickly?   I'm a pretty big geek, so when I think technology, I love to think about science fiction.  It is such a fun way to explore the possible directions our world might be going in, and to think about the consequences before we get too far down any one particular path.  One of the most fun science fiction series I've come across recently has to be The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer.  I know any of you who read Cinder are totally looking forward to this weekend's book:  Scarlet.

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison - even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive. Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

For a chance to win this book,  tell me what is the most creative re-use of an old fairytale that you've encountered in a book.

Winner will be selected with Random Number Generator on Tuesday March 19, 2013. Be sure to leave a name with your entry, and check back to see if you won. To win you must be a teen (6th-12th grade, or 12-18) who uses a Sno-Isle Library.

Teen Tech Month Book Give-Away: My Adventures As a Young Filmmaker

Hey everybody. Guess what? It is now officially Teen Tech Month here at Sno-Isle Libraries.  So for our weekend book give away, I want to give you a book that will hopefully inspire you to enter our Teen Tech Month Video Contest!  Andrew Jenks is best known for his MTV documentary series World of Jenks.  And now he has written a book all about it called My Adventures As a Young Filmmaker.

Meet the filmmaker who is the voice of his generation! Behind the camera, Andrew Jenks has captured the attention of young adults everywhere with his innovative MTV documentary series, World of Jenks. When asked about his inspiration for the show, Jenks said, "I want to tell the stories of my generation. I want to be a filmmaker that is able to capture what my generation thinks, how they act, and what they ultimately stand for." Now fans of all ages will be able to discover everything they've ever wanted to know about Jenks, from growing up to becoming a renowned documentary filmmaker in this comprehensive photo-biography. How did he do it? By following his own rules for success-always be flexible, fake it till you make it, and never accept no.

Does that sound like a book you might want to read?  For your chance to win, tell me about the most fun video you've made, or an idea you have for making a video.

Winner will be selected with Random Number Generator on Saturday March 16, 2013. Be sure to leave a name with your entry, and check back to see if you won. To win you must be a teen (6th-12th grade, or 12-18) who uses a Sno-Isle Library.

Trailer Tuesday: Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter

Alice in Zombieland was one of the more popular speed book dating titles when I visited Alderwood Middle School before the holidays. I read it shortly thereafter, and was surprised at how much I liked it. It's WAY out there, but fun.

"Alice Bell must learn to fight the undead to avenge her family and learn to trust Cole Holland who has secrets of his own." - Publisher Description

Trailer Tuesday: Breathe by Sarah Crossan

I think the description for Breathe is better than the trailer on this one. But the trailer definitely gets the point across. What do you think?

"In a barren land, a shimmering glass dome houses the survivors of the Switch, the period when oxygen levels plunged and the green world withered. A state lottery meant a lucky few won safety, while the rest suffocated in the thin air. And now Alina, Quinn, and Bea--an unlikely trio, each with their own agendas, their own longings and fears--walk straight into the heart of danger. With two days' worth of oxygen in their tanks, they leave the dome. What will happen on the third day?" - Publisher Description
