The New Wonder Woman

What do you think about her new duds? I think they're awesome; she looks more powerful and imposing now. It never made sense to me that anyone would want to fight crime in a bathing suit or skirt. Not to mention that top. So impractical.

You can read a little more about Wonder Woman's evolution here.

I really hope that they make a movie someday. Even if my Joss Whedon hopes have been dashed. You all probably have no idea what I'm talking about. Ah well.

Don't forget you can place a hold on the Wonder Woman graphic novels or the old tv show!

Calling Teen Writers!

How do writers make a real scene of a simple situation? Layering of course! Young adult authors Heather Davis (Never Cry Werewolf, The Clearing) and Liz Gallagher (The Opposite of Invisible) will lead you through the process of layering in setting, character emotions, thoughts and other details that make a scene come alive.

Actual. Published. Authors of Awesomeness will be at Lynnwood Library at 4pm.

Writing a book? Think you might want to someday? Aiming to be the next famous author?Just want to rock at the next creative writing assignment? Bored with summer already and need something to do this afternoon?

Not to be missed. Seriously.

And while we're at it, there are two more writing workshops this summer, so put July 27 & August 17th on your calendar, 'cause Kevin Emerson (songwriting workshop!) and Holly Cupala (Keeping Secrets: Creating Characters Who Turn the Page) will be here!

Attention Twi-hards!

Based on my time visiting schools around Lynnwood, I know that at least a few of you out there are still Twilight fans. Me? I'm kinda over it. But don't hold that against me please - especially since I've made a solemn librarian pledge to not judge anyone else for their reading interest (it's a pretty easy pledge - it takes WAY too much energy to care about what everyone is reading. I'm lazy like that.).

Another reason not to judge me is 'cause of what I'm about to tell you:

The actresses who play Rosalie and Esme will be in town to introduce a FREE OUTDOOR showing of NEW MOON.

*pauses for screaming*

(was there screaming? I bet if it was Jacob or Edward, there would be screaming.)

Anyway... Nikki Reed and Elizabeth Reaser will be in the Fremont neighborhood TONIGHT (Friday) as part of "the Fremont Outdoor Movie series at 3501 Phinney Ave North. Doors open at 6; event starts at 8. Don’t forget a lawn chair."

There will also be a clip of Eclipse shown, just to up the ante.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Trailer

I've been trying to up my graphic novel IQ, so I've been reading a lot of them lately. One of which, I was amused to discover will soon be a rather awesome looking movie. The trailer looks pretty honest to the book it's based on, Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life, (the second volume in the series by Bryan Lee O'Malley shares a title with the movie) so I'm excited to see it.

Don't forget, you can read and review teen or adult graphic novels for the Summer Reading Program to win prizes!

Win a Free Book: Dirty Little Secrets

All summer long we are going to be giving away FREE BOOKS! It will be happening at random times, so check back here on our blog regularly to see when you can WIN.

Today's book is Dirty Little Secrets by C. J. Omololu.

When her unstable mother dies unexpectedly, sixteen-year-old Lucy must take control and find a way to keep the long-held secret of her mother's compulsive hoarding from being revealed to friends, neighbors, and especially the media.

How can you your own brand new copy to keep forever? Email teens@sno-isle.org and tell us one of your little secrets (a crush? least favorite sibling?). We will post it anonymously to our blog, then randomly draw a winner Tuesday June 15th at noon. Winner (but not their secret) will be posted in the comments here at that time.

Good luck!
