Weekend Book Give-Away: Robopocalypse

Are you afraid of robots?  Always wanted to build one?  Think they are useful tools?  Or do you welcome our robot overlords with open arms?  This week's book is a lovely advanced readers copy of Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson.

Two decades into the future humans are battling for their very survival when a powerful AI computer goes rogue, and all the machines on earth rebel against their human controllers.

Robopocalypse is one of YALSA's 2012 Alex Award winners, a short list of awesome books published for adults, that teens will love!  It is also available on audiobook.

To enter to win Robopocalypse, tell me what sort of robot you would want in your life...or why you don't want a robot ever.

Winner will be selected by my buddy Random Number Generator on Tuesday February 7, 2012. Be sure to leave a name with your entry, and check back to see if you won. To win you must be a teen (6th-12th grade, or 12-18) who uses a Sno-Isle Library.

I think I would probably be able to appreciate a robot that washes dishes and does laundry (obviously with a water-proof feature), among other chores... but ultimately does not have any AI capabilities past knowing whether the china should go through the dishwasher or not. I think it would be cool to have a robot work for me, but if it started to think for itself, I might have problems with that.

I adore robots in all their glory, from the adorable Wall-E types to the terrifying robotic overlords. The kind of robot I would want is a companion robot. One that has enough social skills that you forget you're hanging out with a robot until you actually look at him, or catch him drinking a quart of oil.

I would want a robot that could not only do my homework, but it could also read minds of every living thing, and it would report back to me about what they are thinking. This would give me more time to read (because my robot would do my homework) and I could better understand my classmates and pets.

I don't think I'd want a robot at all- I'm way too paranoid for that. While I do understand the ease of having a robot do your chores, I think I'd rather do them myself. I've never been good with technology, and the last thing I need is my robot going nuts and stuffing me into the washing machine. I think books like I, Robot and movies like The Matrix have completely ruined the thought of AI for me.

I would love to have a robot for things like chores and homework and other stuff i just dont want to do but i think that it would make me to dependent on robots for the hard things and our whole society would deteriorate. So no robots for me.
