Win a signed copy of THE SEA OF MONSTERS

I have one Rick Riordan-signed paperback copy of Percy Jackson #2, The Sea of Monsters.

In order to win, you must:
  1. be 12-18 years old,
  2. able to pick it up at one of the Sno-Isle Libraries,
  3. watch the following video, (all of it)
  4. answer in the comments the questions I ask after the video:

(Yes, I know, I ask so much of you)

Would you want to read on one of those, or are you going to hold onto reading your paper books? What do you guys think about ebooks in general? What do you like/dislike about this whole issue? Why?

You have until 11:59pm on Sunday, March 14 to answer.

I'll draw one lucky winner from the comments. If you add interesting discussion by returning and interacting with other comments, you can earn more entries per substantive comment (meaning: only if those comments add something to the discussion), up to 3 entries per teen.

i'd have to hold on to my paper back books because paper backs are easier for the technologically impaired.

What do you guys think about ebooks in general?

i think the idea's great, but i wouldn't go out and buy them when paperbacks and hardbacks are cheaper.

i like the fact that you could chat with other people who are reading the same online book because if you forget who a certain character is then someone else can explain it to you.
i don't like how the set up works though, it's kinda dumb.

If its on an ipad i wouldnt because it would probably hurt my eyes... so i think that i would hold onto my paper ones.... theyre just easier. although i think it would be cool not to have to wait for my percy jackson books.

i think that it would be awesome not to have to wait for my books at the library but they seem so expensive.

What do you like/dislike about this whole issue? Why?

i like the whole idea of not waiting for books... but im afraid theyll give me headaches.

I think it would be cool to read on one if I had one, but seeing how expensive they are I'm going to stick to Paperbacks.

I like ebooks. I just can't read them as long as paperbacks because I will get a headache.

I like that books are more interactive, but I don't like how we are losing books to electronics.

Hold on to my paperbacks. The feel of a book in my hand is like no other.

It's a good concept, but I share my books with my friends, and I wouldn't dare loan an ebook out. Besides I read during school and electronics aren't allowed.

Not having to wait for books is great, but I can't easily, or willingly share one of these.

I think that I would like to keep paperback books for people who are new to technology's gadgets. Also for little children just learning to read.

What do you guys think about ebooks in general? What do you like/dislike about this whole issue? Why? I think ebooks are great for anyone especially blind people. I think we need a good moderation of both.

I am going to have to stick with paperbacks because they feel more real and ebooks might run out of power while you can always read a paperback.

Even if i like paper backs better i think ebooks are pretty cool with online chats with people who are reading the same book.

What do you like/dislike about this whole issue?

Also i think the ebooks are cool because that will help with back problems because instead of carrying all those heavy books they will only have to carry one ebook.

The ipad is a great handheld tool for everyday work if it takes the place of the hunk of a computer. It holds nothing to reading real books or painting a real picture. Turning the pages of a book is much more intimate than holding a cold metal sheet. It has terrible functions right now for drawing also. There is no pen, so small lines can not be made. I guess the ibook could be a good tool for learning, I would like to read the anatomy book if it had more interaction.
Interaction is one of my concerns. The ipad is in it's first stages so I can not actually verify all of its downsides. I would say no to electronic books because you can not write on the book, for notes, (though I'm sure it is possible to note parts of the book). You cannot borrow the book, and time is limited with the amount of electricity(so you will have to plug it in a lot. . . annoying). Not a lot of people want to steal book but they will want to steal ipad. You cannot look on a shelf in a room and be reminded of reading a really good book so you will pick it up again. I suppose it might cause kids to read more but it just will never be the same experience if we switch to electronic books.
